As the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 on men’s basketball wrapped up last December 2025, the focus now turns to what comes next. Teams appear ready to contend for the next championship, while others remain committed to building stronger results toward more competitive seasons ahead. This breaks down performances while also examining the teams that may be heading into the next season’s finals.
Reignited Rivalry of Long-known Champions
San Beda Red Lions delivered an outstanding campaign throughout the season. They started strong in the elimination rounds until they clinched their 24th overall championship title over the Letran Knights in the finals. The combined game dominance and solid performances reinforced the school’s championship lineage. If the team maintains its defensive identity and preparation standards, it can set the stage for another championship push next season.
Meanwhile, the competing finalist Letran Knights showed resilience and determination up to the finals but ended up falling short in the championship against San Beda. The defeat gives a clear area of improvement for the Knights, particularly in dealing with defensive pressure and facing elite scorers from the rival team. By addressing the lapses and sharpening their execution, it could give the Knights a chance to contend for reclaiming the crown.
Rising Teams for Potential Championship Run
The University of Perpetual Help Atlas, De La Salle – College of St. Benilde Blazers, Arellano University Chiefs, and Mapua Cardinals also stood out as the league’s competitive teams.
The Atlas was a surprising performer of the season after consistently winning the elimination round run against seasoned contenders. This led them to top the Group A rankings with a 9-4 win-loss record. The Benilde Blazers also mounted an impressive campaign, highlighting wins and effective team plays that secured them a spot in the Final Four.
Moreover, both the Arellano Chiefs and Mapúa Cardinals posted a 7–6 record, showing competitiveness but inconsistency, which resulted in a quarterfinal exit.
Striving Contenders Amidst Tough Campaign
Other remaining teams in the lower rankings—Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, San Sebastian Golden Stags, Lyceum Pirates, and Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers—struggled with inconsistency, defensive gaps, and scoring challenges. These factors led them to early exits in the season.
By strengthening their player game strategies, these contenders could help them improve their standings and increase their chances of reaching the semi-finals or finals in the future.
NCAA Season 101 was an overall competitive and unpredictable season, featuring a mix of established champions and developing teams. While top-ranked teams are going strong, other squads have challenged opponents and delivered hard-fought matches. With continued player development and improved strategies, the next season could see potential room for breakthroughs and a tighter championship race.
