The MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Pre-Season Invitational: Road to Tip-off came to an end on March 21 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga, before teams headed into the new regular season.
Sixteen teams, divided into North and South Divisions, participated in the league’s preseason events. This served as a proving ground to build momentum ahead of the season opener. After several weeks of competitive matchups, Abra Solid North Weavers and Quezon Huskers were the two who remained and reached the finals.
Preseason Showdown of Familiar Rivals
Abra Solid North Weavers and Quezon Huskers, fresh off an epic showdown in the previous season, faced off once again and resumed their rivalry in the preseason finals. The two showcased an intense match until Abra Solid North Weavers extended their dominance, beating Quezon Huskers with a final score of 67-47.
The Huskers and Weavers had a tightly contested battle in the early quarters, with the Weavers gradually taking the lead. The Weavers eventually gained control over the next quarters, until the fourth quarter displayed the team’s dominance with a decisive 15-5 run that sealed their win.
Raven Gonzales of Abra Solid North Weavers delivered strong all-around efforts, tallying 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block at the finals. He was also declared the SportsPlus Best Player. Dave Ildefonso, who contributed 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block, secured the tournament’s MVP.
Other key players from the Weavers also contributed to their win, including Tucker Molina, who chipped in 9 points, alongside Mike Ayonayon and John Uduba with 8 points, and Encho Serrano with 6 points.
With the preseason wrapped, the 2026 MPBL season is ready to deliver thrilling matchups, with teams all geared up for exciting games, much-awaited victories, and unforgettable moments on the court.
