It was another dramatic weekend for Formula One fans as the streets of Monte Carlo produced another chapter of fierce competition, where the world’s best drivers battled for supremacy and navigated one of the sport’s demanding circuits.
In a race packed with twists and turns, the Monaco Grand Prix 2026 featured another landmark victory for Mercedes, alongside intense strategic battles, late-race disruptions, and a relentless wave of mechanical breakdowns across teams.
Monaco Meltdown
The race had a dramatic start, with Mercedes making a flawless launch from pole with young driver Kimi Antonelli, leading the field through Sainte Dévote. The biggest upset occurred moments after, as Max Verstappen suffered a mechanical issue that ended his race on Lap 1.
Lewis Hamilton took advantage of the failure, followed by teammate Charles Leclerc, setting an early tension between Ferrari and Mercedes. As the race progressed through the middle phase, Antonelli unleashed a blistering pace, 30 seconds ahead of the Ferrari duo.
The unforgiving streets of Monaco saw seven DNFs (Did Not Finish) across multiple drivers after a mix of technical failures and sudden crashes. With Verstappen retiring first, other drivers joined the growing list of DNFs, namely Carlos Sainz Jr., Charles Leclerc, Lance Stroll, Lando Norris, Oliver Bearman, and Valtteri Bottas.
Another Win for Mercedes
After the track was cleared, Antonelli remained composed towards the closing laps. He showed a commanding performance during a tense battle against Ferrari’s Hamilton. The latter stayed close yet struggled to drive past Mercedes due to the narrow streets, allowing Antonelli to lead the pack.
Crossing the finish line first, Kimi Antonelli clinched his fifth straight victory and became the youngest Monaco Grand Prix winner in Formula One history. Lewis Hamilton finished second, Pierre Gasly in third, with Isack Hadjar and Oscar Piastri completing the top five.
The Monaco Grand Prix concluded with a historic moment amid upsets and chaotic events. With five consecutive wins in a row, Antonelli once again proved his dominance on the track at a young age, marking another milestone in the Mercedes driver’s career.
