Barangay Ginebra San Miguel emerged victorious at the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup after defeating TNT Tropang 5G in the decisive Game 7 on June 17. With a final score of 88-76, the Ginebra Kings have added another title to their growing legacy in Philippine basketball.
In a nail-biting showdown against TNT Tropang 5G, Ginebra turned the tide with a devastating 20-0 scoring run that carried over from the third quarter into the fourth. This kept TNT nearly silent in the next sets, limiting them from earning second-half points and from leading on the scoreboard.
TNT’s final basket came from import Chris McCullough during the last two minutes of the last quarter, until RJ Abbarientos delivered a timely three-pointer that pushed it to 83-76. Following his triple, Ginebra found its rhythm to take over the remaining shots, leaving TNT hopeless for a winning comeback.
Upon clinching Barangay Ginebra’s victory, Justin Brownlee led the charge with 30 points and 14 rebounds and was also declared the Best Import in the franchise. He scored huge numbers throughout the finals, including back-to-back more than 50 points in the earlier games.
Scottie Thompson was named Finals MVP. He bounced back after a tough Game 6 match, pouring in an additional 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists alongside Brownlee’s steady 29-point effort. Rookie sensation RJ Abarrientos was also recognized as the Best Player of the Conference, chipping in 13 points in the game.
The PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals showcased a high level of competition between Barangay Ginebra and TNT Tropang 5G, where both unleashed their sheer determination and resilience in pursuit of victory. As the conference reached its end, it raised anticipation for the upcoming games for the rest of PBA Season 50.
