The 2025 season under the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) delivered intense action as players showcased their thrilling matches and best performances across multiple competitions. For the first time, the Philippines hosted the FIVB Men’s Volleyball Championship 2025, where 32 teams gathered to compete for the championship title from September 12 to September 28, 2025.
A total of 64 matches, including the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and medal matches, were simultaneously held in two venues: Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. The season was a landmark event with a new global format, historic milestones, and competitive highlights, which resonated among volleyball fans to see the sport’s growing impact locally and internationally.
Alas Pilipinas’ Debut and First Win
The games were anticipated by the Filipino crowd as Alas Pilipinas, the all-men volleyball team from the Philippines, made their first appearance on the home court for an international tournament.
Alas Pilipinas went head-to-head at Pool A with competing countries—Iran, Egypt, and Tunisia. They rivaled against Egypt and eventually defeated the opponent, stunning them with scores 29-27, 23-25, 25-21, and 25-21. This marked their first-ever Men’s World Championship win in the international volleyball scene.
After their final challenging matchup with Iran on September 18, Alas Pilipinas did not advance to the Round of 16. However, the first win elevated the country’s standing in international volleyball, moving from No. 88 to No. 77 in world rankings and placing 19th out of 32 teams in the men’s championship.
