The Thais successfully defend their title, earn a historic ticket to the Olympics

Thailand’s national women’s volleyball team successfully defended its crown at the 23rd AVC Women’s Continental Championship. The victory gave the team its fourth title in the competition, making Thailand the third most winning nation in AVC Women’s Championship history.

The Road to the Finals

Thailand was drawn into Pool B with Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Australia. The team asserted its dominance in the preliminaries, sweeping Australia and Indonesia 3–0. Kazakhstan provided a tougher challenge, taking the third set, but Thailand ultimately prevailed 3–1 to sweep the group stage.

The Thais then faced South Korea in the quarterfinals, securing a 3–0 victory. They advanced to the semifinals against Pool C leaders Japan, the second most winning team in the competition.

Japan gave Thailand its toughest challenge yet. The Thais took the first two sets, 25–21 and 25–20, before Japan claimed the third, 25–20. Thailand responded in the fourth, winning 25–20 to secure its spot in the final against China.

The Finals

China entered the final as the most successful team in the competition, with 13 championship titles—more than double Japan’s total.

Thailand started strong, taking the opening set 25–20. China responded by winning the next two sets, 25–11 and 25–23, putting Thailand one set away from defeat. The Thais fought back to take the fourth set 25–18 and forced a deciding fifth.

Thailand then closed out the match 15–10 to claim a 3–2 victory and successfully defended its continental title for the first time in the team’s history.

Outside hitter Sasipaporn Janthawisut led all scorers with 28 points, while middle blocker Thatdao Nuekjang and outside hitter Chatchu-On Moksri added 18 and 17 points, respectively. Setter Pornpun Guedpard, meanwhile, was named Most Valuable Player.

Onwards to the Olympics

The victory also secured Thailand a spot in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, marking the first time the country’s women’s volleyball team has qualified for the Games.

Thailand also earned a place in the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Cup. With its continental title successfully defended and a historic Olympic berth secured, the Thai women’s team now turns its attention to the next chapter of its international campaign.
