The 2025 season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) underscored the resilience and competitive spirit of both teams from the North and South Divisions, with key victories and action-packed moments that defined the whole campaign. Before the 2026 season tips off, here is a look back at the MPBL 2025 campaign, reviewing the top basketball highlights and the hard-fought run at the finals.
Notable Records in MPLB 2025
The past season produced record-breaking performances, breakout stars, and landmark achievements that pushed the competition to a new level. The games became more exciting with the arrival of the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys as the latest addition to the North Division roster. Moreover, the comeback of Basilan Viva Portmasters, Cebu Greats, and Pasig City fueled the anticipation for every game.
Records were also shattered as the Abra Solid North Weavers delivered 36 straight wins, setting the league’s longest winning streak in history. The Sarangani Gripper scored the most points in a single game with a total of 148 points after their regular-season matchup against Bulacan Kuyas.
The season also saw significant changes in team names, game formats, and overall standings, which signaled the league’s growth and renewed energy. Teams from both divisions showed grit and determination that secured their respective wins, pushing them through tough matches and boosting their rankings.
The Fierce Rivalry at the Finals
The 2025 season featured an intense showdown between the Abra Solid North Weavers from the North Division and the Quezon Huskers from the South Division in the Finals. Abra claimed the championship title after sweeping Quezon at 3-0, marking their first-ever win in MPBL.
Meanwhile, Quezon Huskers came close to winning Games 1 and 3 but narrowly missed the potential game-winning shots, which resulted in their defeats in both games. This was also Quezon’s second consecutive Finals loss after falling short to Pampanga in 2024.
Dave Ildefonso of Abra Solid North Weavers led the charge throughout the season, declaring him the season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) while Jason Brickman captured the Finals MVP after dominating the finals game. Encho Serrano was also a key contributor to the team’s victory with 21 points and 9 rebounds during the last game.
MPBL showcased moments of brilliance and fierce competition from its participating teams, which demonstrated the very best of regional basketball. With the 2025 season concluded, the league gears up for another exciting season.
