The Criss Cross King Crunchers finally broke through in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, capturing their first-ever championship with a hard-fought four-set victory over the Savouge Spin Doctors last April 19.
After settling for runner-up finishes in 2024 and 2025, the King Crunchers completed their redemption run this season and added the Open Conference crown to their growing list of achievements. The title also marked another milestone for the young franchise, which only debuted in the league in 2024.
Criss Cross came out strong in the championship match, surviving a tight opening set, 28-26, behind the steady offensive production of Alche Gupiteo. The King Crunchers carried that momentum into the second set as Noel Kampton and Jude Garcia powered the team to a commanding 25-17 win and a two-set advantage.
Savouge, however, refused to fold.
Former NCAA MVP Louie Ramirez sparked the Spin Doctors in the third set, helping his squad break a 24-all deadlock before capitalizing on an unforced error from Garcia to escape with a 28-26 victory and extend the match.
The fourth set turned into another intense battle as Savouge continued to pressure Criss Cross. Setter Michael Imperial delivered consecutive attacks to give the Spin Doctors a 16-14 edge, but Garcia responded with a clutch cross-court kill to restore the King Crunchers’ momentum.
Ramirez later forced a 23-all deadlock with a smart wipe-off play against setter Adi Villados, threatening to push the match into a deciding fifth set. But veteran middle blocker Kim Malabunga stepped up when it mattered most, converting a quick middle attack before shutting down Ramirez with a match-clinching block to seal the 25-23 victory and the championship.
Garcia capped off another dominant conference run by winning both the Finals MVP and Conference MVP awards. He also finished as the league leader in points, spiking efficiency, and service aces. Meanwhile, Villados earned Best Setter honors after orchestrating Criss Cross’ high-powered offense throughout the tournament.
With the elusive Open Conference crown finally secured, the King Crunchers now shift their focus to defending their Invitational Conference title as they continue establishing themselves as one of the league’s rising powerhouses.
